Chekhov allows you to step into a Russian country house at the beginning of the nineteenth century, just as if you were stepping into the world of author Anton Chekhov.  Be serenaded by a piano player as waitresses rustle past in their long gowns.  Popular with both Russians and tourists, so booking a table is recommended.

Cosy houses and dachas of the Russian intelligentsia of the end of the 19th - the beginning of the 20th centuries, its mode of life with long meals, tea drinking and conversations at the table under the low lamp — shape, slowness and contemplation with the sense of nostalgia filled in Chekhov’s plays are the basis of the conception of this restaurant of the Russian cuisine. The restaurant is located in an ancient building in the historical centre of St. Petersburg. The space is divided into several zones: the living and dining rooms, the gobelen room, the study, the veranda, the musical room and the playing zone. Such zoning provides an intimate area around each table of the same hall. On the veranda there are wicker armchairs round the big table and an aviary for singing birds between the walls. Further there is the main zone with an oak cupboard full of home-made pickles.

Chekhov has a tasty Russian fare. The menu is in the form of an old book.  Three grades of beer (one of which, 'Country ', is brewed specially for the restaurant) pour from ancient brass pumps in a  ' Beer buffet '. Specialities are fruit liqueurs and mixtures prepared from old recipes, which can be eaten after the meal or taken home.
